Why are we doing this?
Why do you even need a brand story.

WHY STORY MATTERS

Your papers, your data, your lab equipment, that's what you do. Your brand story is how you explain your impact to the world.

Branding is how we all understand who you are, what you stand for, why you do it, and, most importantly, why your work should matter to others.

WHY STORY MATTERS

A "Brand" isn't just what you say it is.

It is what others think, feel, and say about you when you leave the room.

Inentional use of Brand + Story is how you influence that conversation and build community around it.

If an audience misinterprets your data, the data fails to do its job. The same is true for your brand.

WHY IT MATTERS

"No clear story "
isn't where you want to be.

Externally, little is understood of who you are or what exactly you do, how it fits together and what you are working on collectively.

Messaging and engagment feels scattered, coming from many different voices, and not in concert.

That translates into low engagement, following, low comprehension, and no clear story.

WHY STORY MATTERS

GBHI is missing a clear purpose/reason for being, and a clear story + consistent voice to tell it.

So we need one clear story for the whole, align the parts up around it, and get it to more people.

ROI on Brand Clarity:

  • Secures funding

  • Attracts top talent

  • Accelerates peer adoption

  • Widens reach of impact

  • Builds a following

THE CORE RECOMMENDATION

GBHI becomes the institute's brand voice, translation engine, and community hub.

It brings brand story and the science together, translating data and research into everyday prevention, care, and connection.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Five specific jobs for the new communication platform, and the problem each one solves.

01. UNIFIED BRAND VOICE

Make GBHI the single creative voice that aligns to tells the brand story, and carries its positioning and purpose to the outside world.

WHAT IT SOLVES:

Complexity

Bring the separate academic voices together under one brand, turning complex research into a clear message outsiders instantly understand.

The Plan

What it solves

OUTCOMES

03. CENTRAL RESOURCE

Hub. Build one online home where everything lives, organized around what a person needs, not the org chart.

WHAT IT SOLVES:

Complexity + inaccessibility.

What GBHI knows is scattered across program sites, hard to find.

The Plan

What it solves

OUTCOMES

05. CROSS-PROGRAM CATALYST

Be the bridge between Programs. Find the themes the programs share, and package their work together, building collaboration without touching anyone's scientific mission.

WHAT IT SOLVES:

Silos + hesitance.

Start a creative content summit. Get the programs sharing what they're working on, so the overlaps and the whole story is visible. The programs work in separate lanes, so a common story isn't getting told.

The Plan

What it solves

OUTCOMES

02. TRANSLATION ENGINE

Turn research into more focused content toolkits people can actually use.

WHAT IT SOLVES:

Inaccessibility.

Turns data, research and studies into public-facing toolkits, social campaigns, and educational modules that make cognitive health accessible to everyone. Create clear guides, posts, videos, and toolkits.

The Plan

What it solves

OUTCOMES

04. DIGITAL COMMUNITY HUB

Grow the online following and engagement across its channels, into an active community where people engage with you, find answers, and find each other.

WHAT IT SOLVES:

Invisibility + scattered giving.

Build and run the channels, growing from low numbers/presence to an active network where people find resources, support, and each other.

The Plan

What it solves

OUTCOMES

Summary

More people helped.
The expertise reaches families and caregivers who had no way to find it.

More visibility.
A name people outside Emory know, follow, and trust.

More credibility.
A clear, steady public voice reads as a leader in the field.

The institute, elevated.
One story lifts the whole above the sum of its programs.

More fundraising.
A clear story of the whole gives donors something bigger to support.

A real community.
People facing this find each other, which is part of the care.

CREATIVE INSIGHTS

Foundational story material

Three ideas about GBHI, each one a shift from how this work is usually talked about. They're bigger than findings. They're the angles the whole story is built from, and each one gives us something to say and a way to say it.

01

Hope you can act on, not hope you wait for.

Most cognitive health messaging offers hope as a someday promise: a cure is coming, keep faith. GBHI can offer a different kind, hope you can use today, a next step, a habit, a plan. It changes the whole feeling of the work, from waiting to doing. This is where "actionable hope" comes from, and it runs through everything we say.

FULL LIST
02

The parts and the whole, hidden superpower.

GBHI doesn't have to choose between five strong programs and one clear institute. It can be both, each program fully itself, and part of something bigger. Think of the EU. This answers the fear that one brand flattens the programs, and it lets the story say what no one else can: you stay yourselves, and together you become more.

FULL LIST
03

Where the data and humaness merge.

Most research institutions pick one or the other: serious, or caring. GBHI can be both, science you can trust, shared with real warmth. Each side makes the other believable. The warmth keeps the science human, and the care you can feel makes the trust real. This is the root of how GBHI sounds, and why it doesn't sound like anyone else.

CORE IDEA

GBHI is a cognitive health research ecosystem that translates data into actionable knowledge + care and turns fear into agency.

Cognitive health is a landscape of fragments. For scientists, it is scattered across disconnected studies, research and data. For families, it appears in real life differently; only in fragments of crisis, a missed word, a diagnosis, an appointment. It leaves people terrified and lost.

For the people living it, this is a long journey. It begins long before anything is wrong, with people who are well and want to stay that way, and it runs through the first questions, a diagnosis, and the years of caring that follow. GBHI is the guide on that journey: the map, the next move, and the place to turn at any point along it.

To be that guide, the Institute connects the fragments. The science here is our own: we gather it from the very patients we care for, and bring it together so patterns show up. What one program learns, another can use. Patterns held across thousands of lives come back as guidance for one person.

And we close the distance from the lab to the kitchen table. That distance is the real problem in this field, and shortening it is our work: dense neuroscience becomes everyday knowledge, fear becomes actionable dignity, and a finding becomes something a person can use this week. The people here are why it works: scientists who are also clinicians, who chose this work because they mean it.

So we help people walk it with less fear, more knowledge, better science, excellence of treatment, and actionable plans, ensuring that at every point of cognitive change, families have both a map and a guide.

Elevator Pitch (short version)

Cognitive health is a long, fragmented road. The science that could help rarely reaches the people on it. GBHI does the research and the care, translates what it finds to you at every step, and brings the whole thing out of the shadows.

OUR DIFFERENTIATORS

DIfferentiators

What sets GBHI apart.

1. Capability

Unified Ecosystem of Research + Care

GBHI is built to close the loop between researchers, clinicians, educators, patients, and care partners, so no one has to face cognitive change alone. The strength is the people, and the way their work connects. Built on: deep experience and a real dedication to helping · scientists who are also clinicians, gathering data from the very patients they care for · one shared body of data underneath, standardized so patterns show up · programs covering discovery, prevention, care, and the search for a cure, each reaching further together than alone

2. offered solution

Translational Power: Findings into lifestyle steps, toolkits, and clear answers

GBHI is the scientific translator ( getting the Data into people's Lives). Its communication engine turns complex, specialized studies into practical, everyday guidance anyone can understand and use. In practice: dense research made plain · findings turned into lifestyle steps, toolkits, and clear answers · taught openly, and free · for prevention, care, and connection

3. Emotional & Public Value

Strength in connection: Community as a toolkit, humanity as a skill.

Through its unique concept of community, GBHI shifts how cognitive change is seen. Where the field can lead with coldness or a sense of inevitable decline, GBHI leads with evidence-based optimism, dignity, and compassionate unity. Isolation and fear turns int a next step · stigma brought out of the shadows · people learning and leaning on each other · more good days for more people.

VALUE PROP / WHY US

Value Proposition

Why GBHI is worth believing in.

1. What's the offer?

Knowledge: Care + Research translated

Research/Data/Studies turned into actionable Knowledge, Awareness, Care; a plan you can act on. Data translated from a Unified Ecosystem of Research, for those who need it most.

2. Benefit for the audience

Agency: Actionable Hope & Clarity

A next step, not just something to hope for. Fear turns into a plan you can start today, for more good days.

3. Value differentiation

Connection: Community as remedy

Loneliness feeds this disease. We answer it with people, warmth, and connection instead of isolation. Stigma & fear brought out of the shadows.

OUR VALUE PROPOSITION

GBHI turns research into knowledge you can use, a next step in place of fear, and community beside you in place of isolation.

GBHI carries what its research and data finds into everyday life: plain guidance, care you can reach, and a community sharing and learning together. So cognitive health becomes

something we can understand and act on, whether you're well, facing a diagnosis, or caring for someone who is, and fear gives way to knowledge, helplessness to actionable hope.

WHAT A VALUE PROP SHOULD BE.
Your Value Proposition should be clear, honest and clarify a company’s value.

It clearly articulates why someone would go with you instead of a competitor.

A value proposition can be used in many forms and ways;

As an elevator pitch, tagline, or simply a short statement on a website.

IT IS THE CORE OF A COMPANY’S COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.

Our USP

The one thing GBHI can say that no one else can.

GBHI is built to carry its own research from the lab, to the patients it treats, and into everyday life, narrowing the distance between the science and the people who need it.

From Lab to Kitchen Table.
No single program can take science from a lab to a kitchen table. GBHI is built as a set of programs that can, gathering the science from the very people it cares for, and covering discovery, prevention, care, reach, and the search for a cure. It carries what they find the whole way: into plain knowledge, into daily life, and into a community where people learn and share it together.

The science comes from the patients it cares for, moves through its own programs, and arrives as something a person can use. That whole path, under one roof, is what lets GBHI shorten the distance between a finding and the family who needs it.

00
OUR MISSION / OUR HOW

We turn what we learn from research into everyday clarity for prevention, early detection, and treatment, to transform fear and stigma around cognitive decline into knowledge and empowerment.

Purpose sits above mission and vision. It's the human reason the work matters, and it should hold true no matter how the methods change. Everything else, the science, the programs, the carrying it out, is in service of this one thing.
GBHI exists to…

WHAT A MISSION SHOULD BE.
Your mission should describe HOW to achieve the vision.

It conveys what you are going to do to make your vision a reality,

and explains how we can create the future we want to see.

It should define a coherent set of goals that supports that future.

MISSION IS ACTIONABLE, ATTAINABLE AND LEADS TO STRATEGIC GOALS.

Section 00 / Name

00
OUR VISION

Cognitive health cared for early and openly, and where prevention and a cure one day leave this work no longer needed.

Picture cognitive health treated the way we treat the heart: something you tend to early, talk about openly, and act on long before there's a crisis. A world where the newest science reaches a family in a small town as fast as it reaches a research hospital, where no one is left behind by where they live or what they can afford. And further out, a world where this disease takes less each year, until the day it takes nothing at all, and the work we do is no longer needed. We would count that as the goal. To make ourselves unnecessary.

WHAT A VISION SHOULD BE.
Vision in a word is the destination. Our WHERE.

It is what an organization hopes to achieve or become.

It is the articulation of what we are working towards, and the world we want to see happen.

It is a shared picture of the mission’s success.

VISION IS ASPIRATIONAL, MOTIVATING AND MEMORABLE.

Section 00 / Name

00
OUR PURPOSE

Purpose sits above mission and vision. It's the human reason the work matters, and it should hold true no matter how the methods change. Everything else, the science, the programs, the carrying it out, is in service of this one thing.
GBHI exists to…

To give more people, more better days.

Behind every study and every statistic is a person who wants the same thing: more mornings that feel like themselves, more time that still counts. But these illnesses take more than time. They take pieces of who a person is, their memories, their joys, their sense of purpose, the things that make them them. And when that slips away, the people around them lose it too: the shared stories, the person they knew, a part of a family or a friendship that goes quiet. So this comes down to something bigger than more years. It's giving people back more of themselves, to hold onto, and to share with the ones they love. Every better day we return is a day someone is still here, still themselves, still part of the lives around them.

VOICE / LANGUAGE

Brand Voice & Persona

Persona: The Guide.

A step ahead on a hard, scary road. Not a lecturer, not a lab. Someone who's seen it before, turns to walk it with you, and helps you find a way forward, taking fear and confusion and turning them into knowledge, a plan, and the sense that there's something you can do. Speaks to the patient, the family, and the people around them, never over their heads.
